Bragg Homestead

Students will experience a working homestead, explore our chicken coop, smokehouse, garden area, fruit orchard, vineyard, bottle tree, cain mill, Bragg house, cabin, barn, apiary and miles of nature trails and the wildlife of the Alabama Black Belt region. 
Note: Teachers are allowed to pick one of the living history figures for their field trip.
Students will meet important historical figures, who played vital roles in the history of Alabama’s Black Belt. Each historical figure comes to life dressed in period clothing and telling their personal stories.
Peter Newport Bragg was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, where he fought against General Cornwallis. Bragg was a native of Virginia, born in Fauguier County March 4, 1763. When he was only 16 years old, Bragg entered the American Army under the command of General Greene. Bragg fought in several battles, including Guilford Courthouse, North Carolina and Camden, South Carolina.
