Welcome
Cornwallis 1828 is a nonprofit located in Braggs, Alabama in western Lowndes County, the heart of the Alabama Black Belt region. This working homestead is the former home of Peter Newport Bragg. Bragg moved to Alabama in 1828 after fighting in the Revolutionary War under the command of General Greene.
Cornwallis 1828 is an unequal mix of historic preservation and education, habitat conservation, ecological and environmental education, hunting and fishing, and nature-based agritourism. We work with secondary schools, colleges, and community groups to get people into the great outdoors and to instill a love of nature.
