The walks are held at Cornwallis 1828, in the heart of the Alabama Black Belt region, Braggs,Alabama, in western Lowndes County. We have 5200 acres that we can Explore. Cornwallis 1828 is the working homestead of Peter Newport Bragg. He fought in two major battles during the Revolutionary War against General Cornwallis. He moved to western Lowndes co,Al after the war to now the community that bares his name “Braggs,Al”
Walks are three hours in duration, canvassing multiple miles across natural terrain or trails. Participating in a walk is an excellent opportunity for exercise, development of butterfly and plant identification skills, photography, and citizen science. The walk leader keeps track of all butterfly sightings and reports them to either the state or a national sightings database.
